BECOME AN INSTRUMENT OF CHANGE

Thank you for supporting Silkroad. As a not-for-profit, donor support propels all that we do: creating incredible music that unites us across cultures, providing refugees with artistic fellowships, outreach work in prisons, educational programs in under-resourced middle schools, residencies in communities in need of opportunities – like the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and the Northern Cheyenne Reservation at Lame Deer – and so much more.

Through multi-faceted artistic and justice initiatives like American Railroad, we are resetting the narrative, uniting humans across fragmentation, and celebrating diversity. While no small task, we believe in this crucial, exciting work – and we need your support!

While all gifts are appreciated, gifts of $2,500 or more will allow us to have the most impact as we work to expand our social impact. Please contact Jennifer Klahn at jennifer@silkroad.org to learn more.

Silkroad (The Silk Road Project, Inc,) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, EIN 04-3444069.

“I just arrived home from the World Premiere of American Railroad at George Mason Performing Arts Center in Fairfax, Virginia. It was a marvelous experience and that good feeling just keeps coming over me. I feel more open to the universe. So original, unique and stirring. Thank you for the gift of music in its rarest, most vibrant form.”

+ Naming Opportunities

Give the gift of music and creation while supporting innovation at Silkroad. With your gift at the $10,000 level or more, you can sponsor a new score commission for the Silkroad Ensemble to perform around the world. This is a unique way to honor someone you love and to leave a lasting legacy of music. In appreciation for your support, you will receive a signed score and dedication, as well as special access to the rehearsals and performances of the work.

In addition, you have the valuable opportunity to underwrite an individual Silkroad Connect school for one year in your name. Silkroad Connect partners with middle school classrooms in under-resourced communities of color across the country to position the arts as a social justice and advocacy tool. With your gift at the $50,000 level or more, you can sponsor students from one school to learn firsthand from Silkroad musicians, participate in the process of creative development, and examine how music and storytelling can confront erasure, retell historical untruths, and amplify the voices and contributions of marginalized communities.

For more information about naming opportunities, please contact Jennifer Klahn at jennifer@silkroad.org.

+ Donor-Advised Funds

The donor-advised fund (DAF) is becoming an increasingly popular way to make a charitable gift. DAFs can provide you with immediate tax benefits while making your charitable giving easier. Here are two simple ways you can make a gift through your DAF:

  • Make an outright gift by suggesting a grant to Silkroad.
  • Designate Silkroad to receive all or a portion of the fund value upon the termination of the fund.

You can select the option that best suits your philanthropic and financial goals to support Silkroad. Just contact your fund administrator to request a distribution or beneficiary form or download the appropriate form(s) from your administrator’s website.

If you include Silkroad in your plans, please use our legal name and federal tax ID, and contact Jennifer Klahn at jennifer@silkroad.org to learn more about the impact of your gift.

+ IRA Gift (QCD)

Contact your IRA administrator to request a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA to Silkroad.

+ Planned Giving

Your planned gift to Silkroad is an investment in creating a world where music knows no boundaries, and can turn a brilliant idea into a pilot activity that builds communities, strengthens cultures, and ignites change—inside and outside the concert hall.

There are many planned gifts that won’t affect your existing financial resources, but will have a significant impact on the future of Silkroad. Some methods include:

  • Gifts by Will or Trust: A charitable gift from your estate is a favored method of giving that enables you to achieve your financial goals, maintain control of your assets, and benefit Silkroad.

  • Naming Us in Your Assets: While you may transfer many of your assets through your will or living trust, a document called a beneficiary designation controls distribution of your retirement plans, life insurance policies, commercial annuities and a variety of financial accounts.

  • Charitable Lead Trust: Make a substantial gift to Silkroad in the form of fixed annual payments and pass assets to your family or other heirs at reduced tax cost.

  • Charitable Remainder Trust: A charitable remainder unitrust can help you maintain or increase your income while making a significant gift to Silkroad. The charitable remainder unitrust is highly flexible. You can easily make gifts of assets that are not easily converted to cash using the unitrust. If your unitrust grows, your payments will grow too, providing a potential hedge against inflation.

For more information about planned gifts and to determine the type of investment and impact you would like to make, please contact Jennifer Klahn at jennifer@silkroad.org.
