ARTIST RESPONSE PROJECTS
Due to the devastating impact that COVID-19 is having on the performing arts, Silkroad has developed emergency response projects to provide opportunities for our artists and crew to continue producing meaningful and impactful art and arts experiences. There are two project types:
DUO COMMISSIONING PROJECTS
This unprecedented time of social and physical distancing—with its halt to normal performing and touring life—also prompts reflection and new creation. This collaborative commissioning project explores another path to building bridges across traditions and amongst our artist family by pairing Silkroad artists to create brand new compositions. This commission program will give rise to a body of works that is both a reflection of life in the time of a global pandemic and a celebration of creativity to bring us together despite current restrictions.
SERVICE PROJECTS
Recognizing the power of music to provide connection and healing to those affected by COVID-19, Silkroad artists will plan and implement programs of service in their local and/or digital communities. Whether virtual experiences or in-person offerings, this new program connects the artistry of Silkroad with communities most in need, such as those in hospital care, the elderly, learners of all ages, and the economically disadvantaged.
