LAME DEER ASIA PROJECT
KOJIRO UMEZAKI
As a continuation of the multi-year relationship between the Lame Deer School and Silkroad, the Lame Dear Asia (LDA) project brings students from the Lame Deer School on the Northern Cheyenne lands to visit Japan and South Korea alongside Cheyenne and Silkroad artists. Working with K-pop artists in both music and dance, through an academy, is an example of a central activity for the visit. Beyond the cultural and learning experiences for all involved, the goal is to produce a creative document in video form, co-authored by students, including music, dance, and visual art. The video will serve as a companion piece to “Art makes me feel like a human being,” a quote from Shay American Horse who is featured in a video highlighting the Silkroad-Lame Deer School relationship. The LDA project companion video will involve more current Lame Deer students and underscore the local to global continuum that has characterized Silkroad since its founding.
